I went to the Philosophy Welcome Back event which the Philosophy Department held. It happened on October 4th from 4 pm to 5 pm at the D building of the Abbotsford Campus.
This event was thrown to welcome the new school year and everyone was welcome. I have taken philosophy courses in the past but I have never met the faculty, so I went there to make some connections and to sink my toes even deeper into philosophy.
They had a whole feast laid on the table for the event. They had samosas, old dutch chips, an assortment of mini chocolate bars, charcuterie board, breadsticks and dip, mini cupcakes, chocolate chip cookies, an assortment of what seems like pizza toppings with cheese and for drinks bottled water.
This seemed like a private event since only philosophy students and teachers from the same department were present, but the teachers in the department made me feel welcome. I had a long chat with a couple of teachers and an acquaintance about university, life and philosophy courses. It was also interesting to hear what other students have been talking about too.
Events like these can be really helpful for new students because teachers and university senior students are often present here, who can provide some guidance regarding your course path. All you need to do is be brave, show up and try making some connections. A little goes a long way!
All in all, it was a fun and satisfactory ending to my evening. I would give this event a 4.8 out of 5 stars!
