I went to the Pumpkin Carving Social event which the UFV pre dental club held. It happened on October 25th from 5 pm to 7 pm at the SUS club house of the Abbotsford Campus.
Well as the name suggests it was an event to have an early start to spooky fun and carve some cute and terrifying pumpkins. Pumpkins of all sizes and all varieties of pumpkin carving tools were provided. They also had a variety of pizzas for food. The toppings were cheese, extra cheese, veggie, ham and pineapple, and pepperoni. For drinks they had Coca-Cola and Sprite.
They even provide patterns for the pumpkins. I picked a pattern similar to Jack Skellington from Nightmare before Christmas. The pattern was a bit difficult for my skill level as this was my second pumpkin carving and this pattern just has way too many barbed teeth. After an hour of struggling I was able to finish it. In the end, the eyes came out a little wonky and it’s mouth was a bit too big and the pen that I used to draw on the white pumpkin stained it black and it looked like Jack Skellington had eyeliner on to be extra sassy. I was out of time and this would have to do.
They were having a competition as well. I participated and surprisingly my sassy Jack Skellington won. I was over the moon but when I asked about the prize I was met with silence akin to ghosts leaving because halloween was over.
The company, the food, the music and pumpkins were good and it made for a memorable night but the silence that I was met with, not so much of a good experience. I would rate this overall experience 4 out of 5 stars.
