Thanks for visiting the CIVL Radio Training Module Page!

Most of these trainings and guidelines will be directly applicable to ANY Campus or Community Radio Station that you’d be interested in engaging with, and we encourage you to share these resources with people at YOUR station if you’re part of another organization! Feedback and engagement is always appreciated!

Steps to CIVL Radio engagement:

Here you will find access to the following resources, in order to fully complete the volunteer training modules that will help you understand and learn about the following:

A) Session #1: General Orientation – This section includes background, history, and overal functions of Campus and Community Radio in Canada, as well as how it compares to other radio and media, both here and abroad.

After each of these sessions are completed, if you’ve viewed the videos online, you’ll be asked to fill out the ‘knowledge form’, in order to demonstrate that you’ve completed the sessions, and prompt that we discuss any questions or topics that are unclear or lead to further questions.

Knowledge Form I

B) Session #2: Programming Orientation – This sections includes rules and regulations of participating as a volunteer or programmer at CIVL Radio, including government/CRTC legislation, program requirements and expectations, and station conduct.

Knowledge Form II

After completing the videos and their knowledge forms, we’ll then schedule C) an in-person tech training session, where we will go over the hardware of our studio equipment, the software we use to edit and produce pre-recorded content, and produce your first piece for air on CIVL-FM (usually a 30-60 second promotion of a local event, initiative or cause). Email programming@civl.ca to schedule a tech training session!

Additional Resources:

D) Our CRFC funded Mini-School program was developed in order to collect lectures and resources from experienced professional journalists, podcasters, and media experts, in order to assist volunteers and C/C radio staff members in preparing and producing exciting and engaging radio content through writing, audio collection, narrative development, voicing techniques and more.

Visit the mini-school pages on our website here!

Once a volunteer has completed the above training modules, they are welcome to follow through with the following, in order to seek approval for a regular weekly CIVL radio program!
