Officially becoming known as the Race and Antiracism Network (RAN) in 2010, our group is committed to raising the profile of race-related issues at UFV and beyond; addressing issues of racism, and developing theoretical and practical strategies and tools of anti-racism.

This space is for periodic updates over and above the content featured in Eye on the Valley interviews, including, to debut this platform, interviews with candidates from several Fraser Valley ridings in advance of the 2024 Provincial Election, which can be viewed and heard below.

Nishi Channa is a writer, rookie singer, and budding radio host. She is currently working on a mini-show named “Review Break” at CIVL Radio. This show airs bi-weekly on CIVL radio and is about her experience in various community events she attends. Click here to see her reviews!

The Community Radio Fund of Canada has funded 13 CIVL initiatives to date with $454,637.63

CIVL has sponsored these local music streaming events since the pandemic interrupted in-person events, with help from Black Connections, mhutt Films, the Abbotsford Arts Council, and more local sponsors and partners!

CIVL and the Common Room Music Collective teamed up in 2020 to provide the Common Room Recording Grant, offering $3,500 to one local artist in order to produce their first professional recording!

In April of 2021, the Community Radio Fund of Canada-funded 5 part podcast mini-series ‘Abbotsford’s Hushed History of Racism’ was released by CIVL on www.canada-info.ca, thanks to funding from the Local Journalism Initiative, thanks to the work of journalist Aly Laube. CIVL hosted 20 artists in it’s studios in 2018 and 2019 thanks to funding from the Community Radio Fund of Canada, allowing us to showcase diverse local and touring artists, their songs, experiences and stories!

The Community Radio Fund of Canada funded CIVL to host a year long project presenting skilled radio professionals, leading lectures and workshops in order to help new volunteers produce effective pieces for campus and community radio, and be paid for completing them for air on CIVL 101.7 FM!
